1. The Bioinformatician II will work with a group of scientists from the Mount Sinai Genetic Testing Laboratory on innovative analyses of human genomic variation in an integrated environment dedicated to state-of-the-art genetic testing services.
2. We are seeking an experienced developer/analyst to join a variety of projects and work closely with the Directors and Managers of different departments within the clinical laboratory to assist in quality assurance and analysis to consistently improve upon client service levels and avoid any barriers to meeting and exceeding our crucial turnaround times. The winning candidate will have exposure to cutting-edge technologies and high visibility in a competitive environment.
3. The role offers the chance to design and develop tools, analytical pipelines and data management software in a production environment and the opportunity to make tangible contributions to the ongoing development and implementation of QC/QA and validation strategies.
Position Description:
1. Analyze high-throughput DNA sequence data and integrate with a team of scientists and bioinformaticians to analyze genomic data.
2. Manage databases, conduct statistical and genomic analysis and participate in the preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
3. Optimize analytical routines in a high-performance computing environment.
4. Work in a team to design, develop and improve software; manage data and implement analytical pipelines.
Position Requirements:
1. Education: BS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Software Engineering or Genetics related field preferred. Higher degree is a plus.
2. Familiarity with modern genomics software is essential.
3. Proficiency in PHP, javascript, HTML, MySQL, Bash, R/Bioconductor
and Python; experience with web development frameworks, version control (Git),
test-driven development and issue tracking required.
4. Candidate must demonstrate strong statistical and programming proficiencies combined with experience in all aspects of the software development life cycle and best practices. Background with Linux in a high performance computing environment is crucial.
5. Proven expertise in genomic analysis and annotation required.
