Are you new to NGS data analysis and want to learn how to process and interpret sequencing data yourself?
We are organizing a 3-day, hands-on online workshop on NGS Data Analysis and Variant Calling, taking place November 23 - 25, 2026.
The course is designed for biologists, PhD students, postdocs, and researchers with little or no prior experience in bioinformatics. What will you learn?
Working with real Illumina sequencing data, participants will gain practical experience in:
- Linux basics: Essential command-line tools for bioinformatics
- Quality control: FASTQ files, FastQC, adapter trimming and read preprocessing
- Read mapping: Aligning sequencing reads using BWA-MEM, Bowtie2 and other tools
- Alignment analysis: Working with SAM/BAM files, samtools and mapping statistics
- Data visualization: Exploring aligned reads in genome browsers
- Variant calling: Identifying, filtering and interpreting DNA variants using VCF files
The workshop combines lectures with extensive hands-on exercises. Participants work directly on high-performance cloud computers through their web browsers.
No previous Linux or programming experience is required. No software installation is necessary.
Experienced bioinformaticians provide live support throughout the practical exercises. Workshop details
