I was thinking about this question quiet often but always forgot to ask it here:
DESeq is using the geometric mean during normalization. What is the benefit of the geometric mean in comparison to the arithmetic mean for normalization of read counts?
Is the reason that outliers have a lower effect, so less sensitivity to stronger variations?
