Online course - Unix and Shell Scripting for Bioinformatics - January 12th-16th

    Dear all,

    Happy New Year!

There are still a few seats for our upcoming online course “Unix and Shell Scripting for Bioinformatics”, taking place on 12–16 January 2026.

    Course website: https://www.physalia-courses.org/cou...orkshops/unix/

This hands-on course is designed for biologists with no prior Unix experience who want to gain practical command-line skills for bioinformatics. Participants will learn how to work efficiently in Unix/Linux environments, process large biological datasets (including NGS data), and automate analyses using shell scripting.

Through guided exercises and real-world examples, the course will cover essential Unix commands, file and system management, software installation, text processing, and the construction of reproducible bioinformatics pipelines.

For the full list of our courses and workshops, please have a look at: https://www.physalia-courses.org/courses-workshops/

We look forward to welcoming you to this practical introduction to Unix for bioinformatics.

    Best regards,

    Carlo

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
