Greetings from a Norwegian medical student

    Hi!
To make it short, Im in medical school at the University of Oslo in Norway. Currently Im doing 3 years of research (started my first year); doing a lot of electron microscopy (EM), RNA sequencing analysis and qPCR. My research field is type 2 diabetic men.

Currently my setup is one fully upgraded Macbook Pro retina & a "Hackintosh" of equal power. On the Hackintosh I have installed Samtools2, Bowtie2, Cufflinks2 & TopHat2. At the moment Im running the first TopHat2 analysis as a test, then Im gonna do Cufflinks2 (Cuffdiff) to look at changes in gene expression.

If the test is successful Im gonna start analysing transcriptomes from 18 patients at two time points, sequenced with Illumina HiSeq 2500.

I have no bioinformatic background, so Im reading as much as a can on my spare time while Im doing EM studies. Im probably gonna ask a bunch of stupid questions in the near future, so bear with me! In time I hope I can repay, when Im more experienced.

    Best regards!

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
