Hello everyone,
I’m Ben, the new editor for SEQanswers. I’m very excited to a part of this community and to continue the great work that was started by Eric C. Olivares (ECO).
I’m committed to making this a supportive environment where we can learn, share information, problem solve, and collaborate. I look forward to interacting with you all around the community and developing resources to help with your needs.
Here are a few things about me. I have worked in and out of different molecular biology labs for the last 9 years. In my master’s program I studied protein functions and post-translation modifications. After graduation, I started working in the exciting field of next-generation sequencing and haven’t stopped. I’ve previously worked with the MiSeq, NextSeq, NovaSeq, and the MinION, although I’m interested in all types of sequencers.
When I’m not reading and writing about sequencing technologies and bioinformatics, I’m traveling with my wife, taking Spanish lessons, learning the ukulele, and spending time with my two cats.
Take care and happy sequencing!
Ben

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...-

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...-
