Grad student at UIUC here. I'd come in with a non-bioinformatics project in mind, but had been transferred to polyploid bioinformatics while I had no previous bioinformatics experience. I have been rather lost here, and SeqAnswers provided some really good advice, but now it is time to make an account, and ask the questions that I've had on my mind.
Getting started is tough, but I have taken a perl and unix class, so I can at least muddle through some of the base Terminal commands, if always constantly confused on actual program commands.
