  • MinION enthusiast

    Hi there,

I am new to this forum, and I am a MinION enthusiast. I hope to start testing the technology very soon, and that it will live up to my expectations.

    Best!

One way to get the MinION to live up with your expectations is to look at where the technology was about 6 months ago, and base your expectations on that. Conveniently, this is about the time it takes for a quick MinION experiment to be carried out and publications peer reviewed.

      oxford now

Oxford nanopores changed dramatically in output a couple of months ago. Have a look at the data prereleases. 2-7 Gbases per run was normal for us (with a bit of experience)
Error rate is of course still very high.

They've been changing dramatically in output and read quality for at least the last year. R7.3 was in use at the start of this year, and that had an output of 200-400Mb with good sample prep and training.

Thanks for the feedback! I am really enthusiastic as this instrument is really affordable and the progress in base calling analysis and chemistry/pore changes promise real use very soon. I ordered one these days, and I plan to use it for RNA-seq and maybe targeted gDNA and Chip-seq scenarios. I just don't have access yet to the community to check on the protocols and requirements. I guess I will have it after the Holidays.

Thanks for the reply! Have you tried the new neural network algorithm? I am curious if 1D protocol could do if more sampling is done on same source material to increase the coverage.
