Assistant Professor - Library Production Manager

The Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking to recruit a faculty/managerial level person to be responsible for managing the Library Construction group for the HGSC. The HGSC was founded in 1996 under the leadership of Dr. Richard Gibbs and is a world leader in genomics. The fundamental interests of the HGSC are in advancing biology and genetics by improved genome technologies. As one of the three large-scale sequencing centers funded by the National Institutes of Health, the HGSC provides a unique opportunity to work on the cutting edge of genomic science in a state of the art institution.

This faculty level position would be responsible for managing a team of 20-25 employees principally responsible for directing the library construction operation for the next generation sequencing pipelines (Roche 454, Illumina HiSeq, Applied Biosystem's SOLiD platform, PacBio and Ion Torrent), the NimbleGen microarray capture pipeline, as well as the Sanger sequencing pipeline.

This position will interact with the Director of the HGSC and other key faculty-level managers at the Center to set project goals and timelines and report on project progress. In addition, this person will need to co-ordinate with team leads within the group to oversee the progress of operations in the laboratory and direct the planning and implementation of work-flow for the group processes as well as early access protocols. This position will also need to interact with other key academic and industry collaborators to undertake new projects and implement new technologies within the Center.

    Specific job duties include:
*Plan and direct the operations for the library construction pipeline and the microarray sequence capture pipeline.
*Oversee the progress of projects to meet deadlines through co-ordination with team leads within the laboratory.
*Evaluate, analyze and present project progress and results at meetings
*Spear-head and develop research techniques for specific research projects.
*Participate in grant and publication preparation.
Minimum Education Ph.D. in molecular biology.
Minimum Job Experience Ten to fifteen years of post-doctoral work experience in the field of molecular biology. Managerial experience in a high-throughput setting in a genomics and/or microarray field.

The successful candidate should have a strong molecular biology background (Ph.D. required), experience managing a large team in a high-stress, fast-paced environment, and strong organizational and project management experience. Excellent communication skills are also important along with the ability to multi-task, trouble-shoot and work in a team environment. Prior supervisory experience is a pre-requisite, preferably in a high-throughput genomics laboratory setting.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
