  • Bioinformatics Programmer I

    The Human Genome Center at the Baylor College of Medicine is looking for individuals to discover and analyze genomic variation in normal human and disease populations using bioinformatics and computational techniques and concepts.

    This position will run and validate genome variation pipeline; review existing variation and propose improvements; test in-house bioinformatics tools and provide feedback to the software development team; perform manual annotation on genome variation data; interpret results from similarity searches and from mapping variation data on genomic coordinate systems; ensure that annotation of variation objectives are met as required by project or supervisor; use various computation analyses and biological interpretation of results to review existing data and propose improvements. This position will also be responsible for testing annotation and analysis tools developed in-house and provide feedback to the software development team.

    Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Biological Sciences, or Bioinformatics.
    Preferred: Master's degree.

    Minimum Job Experience Required: No experience required.
    Preferred: Individual must be familiar with or have knowledge of bioinformatics concepts, methods, and tools. Working knowledge of SQL, Oracle, and Perl or Jython required. Familiarity with various sources of genomic data, tools, and databases essential. Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment is required.
