The Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg invites applications from scientists for a junior professorship position to establish an independent group at the Faculty for Biosciences. The position is endowed with a
Tenure Track Junior Professorship (W1) “Molecular Biotechnology-Theoretical Bioinformatics“
The successful candidate should have an outstanding scientific track record in the field of Theoretical Bioinformatics. To strengthen innovative projects in Next Generation Sequencing at the Heidelberg campus the candidate should have focused on methods development for analysis of next generation sequencing data and its relation with biomedical data. The Heidelberg campus offers various opportunities for joint projects with experimental scientists through its three high-throughput sequencing centres at the University of Heidelberg, European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). Some of these projects are part of highly prestigious international consortia, such as the 1000 Genomes Project and the International Cancer Genome Consortium.
The analytical focus of this group should be complemented by expertise in the field of network inference from molecular time series data. The junior professorship will be integrated into the curriculum of the bachelor program Molecular Biotechnology. In particular, he/she should offer an introductory course in mathematics.
This position can be transferred to a tenured professorship (W3-Professorship), which requires an open call.
The University of Heidelberg offers an attractive start-up package and an extraordinary computing infrastructure including access to a 5 PB data storage facility and world-class high performance computing.
The University of Heidelberg has a policy of raising the proportion of women in academic positions and therefore specifically invites the application of women with the necessary qualifications. Under German law disabled applicants with full qualifications are to be preferred.
Please send your application including CV, publication record, planned research program (max 5 pages A4), and teaching evaluation (if applicable) until August 30, 2009 to Prof. Dr. Roland Eils, BioQuant and Institute for Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology, University of Heidelberg, Im Neuenheimer Feld 364, 69120 Heidelberg.
