  • Postdoctoral Data Analyst

The CNAG (www.cnag.eu) started operating in March 2010 with a park of twelve second generation DNA sequencers supported by an extensive informatics infrastructure, becoming one of the major Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe.

The CNAG is actively involved in collaborative research projects on a number of specific topics: Disease Gene Identification, Cancer Genomics, Genomics of Infectious Diseases, Model Organism Genomics and Synthetic Biology Genomics of Model Organisms. In addition, we participate in several consortia of networked projects such as the International Cancer Genome Consortium and EU-funded projects such as RD-CONNECT, READNA, AIRPROM, SYBARIS, ESGI and BLUEPRINT.

We seek a postdoctoral analyst with a strong computational background to develop, maintain and operate data analysis pipelines at CNAG. The successful applicant will be closely involved with the RD-Connect project (www.rd-connect.eu), in the roles of data analysis and interpretation. The analyst will report to the Bioinformatics Analysis Group Leader and must be able to work independently on his/her specific tasks and as part of a team integrating a system.

    Responsibilities:
    1. Development, maintenance and operation of data analysis pipelines for exome and whole genome sequencing studies with a primary focus on rare disorders genetic studies.
    2. Interacting with European partners in the RD-Connect project.
    3. Support of CNAG’s projects.

    Requirements:
    1. A Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or related discipline.
    2. Very able with Unix operating systems, including shell scripts.
    3. Skilled programmer in Perl and/or Python, and R.
    4. Working experience with databases will be an advantage.
    5. Previous experience in high-throughput genome analysis such as variant calling and annotation or GWAS will be highly valued.
    6. Good spoken and written English.

    Application procedure:
Interested candidates may submit a CV and a brief statement of experience and interests before 30th of November 2012, indicating the offer reference (Postdoc data analysis) in the message subject to the following email, [email protected]

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
    by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
