The Chromatin Dynamics Lab led by professor M.E. Bianchi at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute and University (Milan, Italy) is seeking a highly motivated junior or senior post-doc with a strong background in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistical Genetics or Applied Mathematics willing to investigate questions in basic/applied genome biology and epigenomics.

We are interested in understanding the role of nucleosome number and occupancy in gene transcription and cell fate. Indeed, we have recently demonstrated that nucleosome number is a controllable parameter and might represents a new layer of epigenetic regulation (Celona et al., PLoS Biol, 2011).

The appointee will contribute in on-going projects involving next-generation DNA/RNA sequencing (NGS) in mammalian cells, including whole-genome nucleosome mapping, transcription profiling, protein-DNA interactions and chromatin modifications. Moreover, the successful applicant will be encouraged to develop her/his own research ideas along the lines of the research interests of the group.

The appointee will be supported by interactions with the local Bioinformatics Facility (Center for Translational Genomics and Bioinformatics, San Raffaele Scientific Institute), but is expected to establish relations with like-minded groups and researchers at international level.

    We offer:
    • 3 year appointment
    • Salary and contract conditions tailored to experience
    • Closing date: posted until filled

Please send curriculum vitae and contact information for at least two references by email to [email protected]

    Job Requirements:
    - Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, Mathematics or computer science required. Masters of Science degree or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, and/or computational biology preferred.
    - Proven experience using bioinformatics to analyze high-throughput genomic data
    - General shell scripting knowledge and experience working in UNIX and LINUX environments
    - Skills in written and verbal communication
    - Effective judgment and problem solving with little supervision
    - Highly motivated and committed to biomedical research

The following will be considered a plus:
    - Knowledge of signal processing procedures will be considered a plus
    - Experience in programming in Windows and Linux environments with at least two of the following: Python PERL, R, C++, and/or Java, and willing to pick up new programming languages as necessary
    - Familiarity and working knowledge with standard bioinformatics tools, packages, algorithms, and databases
    - Familiarity with statistical analysis methods and tools for bioinformatics
