Two year Bioinformatics position at the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Cell Proliferation Control, CNRS UMR5088 in Toulouse, France
A two year contract for a Bioinformatics position is available in the academic research labs of Dr Didier Trouche (Chromatin and Cell Cycle) and Gaëlle Legube (Chromatin and DNA repair) in Toulouse, France. Our groups are interested in understanding how chromatin influences transcription and DNA double strand break repair in mammalian cells. Over the past few years, we have extensively used ChIP-chip and ChIP-seq technologies to get insights into various aspects of the relationships between chromatin and transcription/repair. We have previously characterized a panel of chromatin modifications and are constantly generating new data sets with additional features. In addition, we need to determine correlations between our data and other publicly available data as well as other genomic features.
Our needs thus encompass a range of bioinformatics activities that include processing and quality control of ChIP-seq data, delineation/demarcation of large chromatin interaction domains from these datasets and the determination of positive and negative correlations between multiple different datasets. Responsibilities include both software and algorithm development as well as extensive data analysis and the interpretation of results. The position requires a individual that is both motivated and independent as well as able to communicate with researchers with a diverse understanding in the fields of biology and statistics.
The candidate must have solid experience in the linux command line, shell scripting and R. Existing software developed by the lab has been written in C++ (Qt) and experience in C/C++ and cross platform GUI applications is also of interest to us. Since the project encompasses biology, bioinformatics and biostatistics, applicants should come from one of these fields and have the desire to further their experience in the others. The candidate will be trained in biology by the host laboratories, bioinformatics and programming by a collaborating bioinformatician and biostatistics through collaborations with a local team at the University of Math. The successful candidate will need to be capable of working in English and accepting of the fact that the work is conducted in France where the community largely speaks French (although there are no requirements for the candidate to know French).
Salary is fixed at 22,200 euros/year and financed through the FRM (Medical Research Foundation).
