  • Computational Biology/Genomics Postdoc, to work on Malaria Genomics at NYU CGSB

A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated computational biologist at the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, in the Department of Biology at New York University. The position is part of large multi-year NIH-funded Center for the Study of Complex Malaria in India (CSCMi), a collaborative project between the laboratory of Program Director Jane Carlton at NYU and the National Institute of Malaria Research in India. The postdoctoral fellow will perform computational analyses of a variety of next generation sequence data including DNA and RNA-Seq, and involving genome assembly/annotation, variant detection/statistical verification, and genome-wide association studies. The position is an opportunity to work at the interface of genomics, infectious disease biology and global public health, and will include 1-2 trips to India per year for 2-3 weeks each.

    Applicants should have:
    (1) A detailed knowledge of next generation sequence data analysis.
    (2) Proficiency in computer programming (e.g., Unix/Linux, Perl, Python, R and/or MySQL).
    (3) An ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
    (4) Good spoken and written English; an ability to speak Hindi and other languages such as Tamil or Gujarati is also a plus.

Interested parties should email a CV and names of three references to Lab Manager Becca Susko at [email protected], with Carlton Lab CSCMi Position in the subject line. Applications received before 15 March 2013 will receive full consideration. The position is available immediately.

The Carlton lab (http://cgsb.as.nyu.edu/object/JaneCarlton.html) is located in historic Greenwich Village in downtown Manhattan, New York City. NYU is one of the world’s leading research universities and the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology is housed in a new, state-of-the-art facility. The Center’s 14 faculty members study genomics and systems biology across all kingdoms of life, supported by a genome sequencing facility. For more information on the Center, see http://cgsb.as.nyu.edu/page/home.
