Paris Institute of Translational Neuroscience
Bioinformatician specialized in high-throughput genetic/genomic data analysis (M/F)
Recruitment date: ASAP
Type of contract: 18 months (CDD), possibly followed by a permanent position
The IHU-A-ICM is a Foundation of Scientific Cooperation that federates the scientific and medical expertise of four partners from the public sector (Public Hospitals of Paris (AP-HP), National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and Pierre and Marie Curie University-Paris6 (UPMC). Our mission is to develop new diagnostic, therapeutic and teaching strategies, in order to improve the management of neurodegenerative diseases. The IHU-A-ICM is localized in the largest European hospital, in a top-level French university. Its research activity, grouped together in the ICM, takes place in a unique environment associating core technological facilities, space for industrial partners and a centre for clinical investigations. This environment has attracted the best international research groups.
Mission and principal activities
The bioinformatics/biostatistics core facility (platform) of the IHU-A-ICM is involved in developing and disseminating analysis methods for a variety of data: genetics, genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, clinical observations and medical imaging. The integrative analysis of such multimodal and high-dimensional data requires specialized information systems and specific statistical methodologies. The platform aims both to provide scientists and physicians with an expert analytical support, and to devise innovative bioinformatics and biostatistics tools.
The bioinformatics/biostatistics platform is seeking a bioinformatician engineer specialized in the analysis of genetic and genomic data produced with high-throughput technologies (SNP and CNV genotyping, case-control studies, whole exome/genome analysis, etc.). He/she will be involved in:
• Providing scientific and clinical partners of the platform with methodological advice and expert assistance in the design, interpretation and visualization of their genetic/genomic studies
• Defining and implementing standardized procedures for QC and first level analysis
• Selecting and developing specialized computer tools and graphical user interfaces for genome data handling and analysis
• Contributing to the scientific and technological watch and evolution of the platform
• Communicating scientific results and offering training in analysis methods and software
Profile of the candidate / Qualities
The successful applicant should hold a PhD or MSc-level degree in bioinformatics/biostatistics, and at least a 2-year experience in genome data analysis of higher eukaryotes.
He/she will have the following skills:
• Hands-on expertise of methods and tools for analyzing high-throughput genetic and genomic data: QC, normalization, SNP calling, structural variations, exome and whole-genome analysis…
• Mastering the main genome database resources
• Proficiency in UNIX environments and programming languages (especially scripting languages, R, and relational database query languages)
• Fluent in written and spoken English
The ideal candidate will be autonomous, rigorous, self-motivated and eager to take the initiative. He/she will demonstrate writing, communication, teamwork and interpersonal abilities, and will be comfortable handling multiple projects in a multidisciplinary environment.
