  • New laboratory position available

Hello everyone. I thought I would let everyone know that there is a new laboratory based position available that might be of interest to someone with good computational and laboratory skills. The posting and links for further information are below.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has an opening for a Research Lab Specialist (Job Number 31558) in the Hematology Department.

The Research Lab Specialist in the Hematology Department will form part of a multi-disciplinary team developing critical production and analytical technology for the exiting field of gene therapy. The new applicant will be responsible for developing robust analytical methods for the analysis of nucleic acids in clinical grade viral vector products, and will utilize a wide variety of analytical procedures and equipment including capillary and conventional electrophoresis, massively parallel sequencing based on the Illumina and other platforms, and computational bioinformatics. This position provides an opportunity for the leveraging of these novel analytical technologies and skills to support the development of a class of novel molecular therapeutics that are demonstrating profound clinical efficacy and promise. The successful applicant will join the St. Jude Vector Production & Development Shared Resource, and as part of that collaborative team will advance and improve the gene therapy program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world leaders in this new therapeutic modality.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
