  • Project Leader - Bioinformatics Algorithms Variation

We are looking for a Bioinformatics Algorithms Project Leader to join the Computational Genomics group at The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC). The Project leader will establish a bioinformatics research programme focused on the development and implementation of novel algorithms for the processing of large genomics datasets, with an initial focus on variant detection and population-based studies. Target datasets include genomic and transcriptomic data from diverse organisms ranging from viruses to large, polyploid crop genomes.

The Bioinformatics Algorithms Project Leader will develop and lead the team focused on the development and application of computationally efficient algorithms for the analysis of genomic data from established sequencing and mapping technologies, and novel technologies adopted by TGAC's genomics division. They will seek new funding opportunities and work to promote and provide best practice guidelines as part of the international bioinformatics community.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in computer science or bioinformatics, and a proven track record in algorithm development. The candidate will have experience working with next generation sequence data and familiarity with variant detection algorithms is essential.
