    Bioinformatician, Cambridge UK

    Bioinformatician, Salary: £27,319-£35,646

University of Cambridge, Department of Haematology
“Transcriptional Networks in Blood Stem Cells and Leukaemia"

The Göttgens group employs both experimental and bioinformatic approaches to identify and characterise blood stem cell regulatory networks. We are now looking for an enthusiastic bioinformatician to join our multidisciplinary team. The postholder will apply and further develop bioinformatic tools to analyse ChIP-Seq and gene expression datasets as well as perform comparative genomic analysis of gene regulatory elements. The vacant post is at Research Associate (Post-Doc) level but suitably qualified individuals without a PhD are also encouraged to apply. The post is available immediately and is funded as part of a Biomedical Research Centre Infrastructure grant with an initial appointment until 31 March 2012.

The postholder will be required to work in a UNIX/Linux environment and be proficient with a scripting language (e.g. Perl/Python) as well as being familiar with statistical analysis tools (R, Matlab). Experience with bioinformatic techniques to study gene regulation as well as genome scale data analysis would be highly desirable.

The group is based in the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, the flagship Institute of the Medical School of Cambridge University with excellent infrastructure and a vibrant research environment. The group has been highly productive with over 40 papers in the last 4 years and enjoys productive collaborations both within Cambridge and beyond.

Please contact Bertie Göttgens at [email protected] for more information.

For more details on the group, please see:

Formal applications consisting of a PD18 form Parts I and III only (downloadable from http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/forms/pd18), a CV and a covering letter should be sent to Mrs Grazyna Tutak, Department of Haematology, Cambridge Institute for Medical Research, Welcome Trust/MRC Building, Hills Road, Cambridge, UK, CB2 0XY, email [email protected]

    * The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2012 in the first instance.

Closing date: 18 March 2010. Planned Interview dates: Week commencing 22 March 2010.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
