Good Morning -
We are seeking an individual who will fulfill the role of Assistant Director of Technology for the University of Michigan DNA Sequencing Core. This individual will report to the Director, along with a to-be-named Assistant Director of Finance.
This facility is an advanced genomics core, with 30 FTE in 10,000 sq ft of laboratory and office space, having outstanding resources for sequencing, genotyping, gene expression analysis and related methods. We have six different types of sequencing platform, including 9 Illumina HiSeqs, three Sanger sequencers (ABI 3730xL) and one each of PacBio RS II, Ion Torrent PGM, Ion Proton and Roche 454FLX. We have a large microarray operation, with Illumina (iScan) Affymetrix (GeneTitan, GeneAtlas, GeneChip) and Agilent equipment available. Other services include qPCR (many devices), fragment analysis, library preparation, epigenomic analysis (PyroMark, Sequenom) and medium-scale SNP typing (Sequenom). Finally, we are exceptionally well equipped with ancillary equipment suited to supporting the above operations.
We are in need of a technology specialist with wide experience in as many genomic/genetic technologies as possible. This individual will be tasked with monitoring new developments in genomics technology, with advising the Director on technology acquisitions and with advising the Core's clients on suitable approaches to their difficult experimental problems. The successful candidate will also supervise several of the operational subgroups (specific groups to be determined by the candidate's skillset).
Applicant requirements: Doctorate in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, cell biology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desired. Only candidates with an exceptionally broad range of technical experience in molecular biology and genetics will be considered. The successful candidate must have exceptional skills in personal interaction, outstanding ability to analyze a complex research problem and recommend technical approaches, and exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English. The successful candidate must have proven supervisory experience, and demonstrated ability to lead a laboratory team.
