  • Head of Core Facility Bioinformatics (m/f) CFBH01

    The Institute of Molecular Biology gGmbH (IMB) is a Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, and located within the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. The IMB focuses on epigenetics, DNA repair and developmental biology and offers state of the art core facilities covering genomics, cytometry, proteomics, histology and microscopy, with bioinformatics connecting facilities and departments (http://www.imb-mainz.de/core-facilities/). The Core Facility Bioinformatics supports researchers in performing data processing, basic analyses and high-level collaborations, as well as by providing infrastructure, teaching and consulting. We are looking for a Head of Core Facility Bioinformatics (m/f) to join our team.

    You will:
    • Lead the Core Facility Bioinformatics, coordinate and organize a team of bioinformaticians and IT specialists
    • Be responsible for long-term strategies for compute and storage hardware and analysis software solutions for the Core Facility Bioinformatics
    • Analyse data generated by high throughput technologies, especially from next-generation sequencing
    • Consult scientists on the analysis of data, experimental planning, data validation and functional analysis and provide support for grant applications
    • Collaborate with our scientists on several projects in parallel
    • Assess existing and develop new data analysis methods for high-throughput data
    • Develop and maintain data analysis pipelines and infrastructure
    • Train users in bioinformatics and statistics


    Required qualifications:
    • PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g. mathematics, physics, statistics, bioinformatics, computational biology)
    • Strong organisational as well as communication skills
    • Experience in team leadership
    • Experience in project management
    • Several years of postdoc, core facility or industry experience in the analysis of high-throughput genomics data
    • A track record of successful interdisciplinary collaborations with biologists proven by peer-reviewed publications
    • Sound knowledge of statistics and R/Bioconductor, in-depth programming skills, at least one language (Perl, Python, Java, C++,...) and familiarity with Linux/Unix
    • Interest to acquire in-depth knowledge about biological processes
    • Proficiency in written and spoken English


    Desirable qualifications:
    • Experience with queuing systems (LSF)
    • Experience in the design of robust analysis pipelines
