Postdoc in Computational Genomics at Imperial College London

A postdoc position in regulatory genomics is available in the Genomic Programming of Beta Cells lab of Imperial College London at the Hammersmith campus in London.

You will work in an exciting research project to decipher the role of genomic regulatory variation in human diabetes. The host lab has recently created regulatory maps of the embryonic and adult pancreas, leading to the discovery that defects in such elements can result in human diabetes (Weedon et al, Nature Genetics 2014, Pasquali et al, Nature Genetics 2014). This has led to new opportunities to exploit computational genomic approaches to understand how regulatory variation can cause human disease.

The host lab is led by Jorge Ferrer and includes computational biologists, molecular biologists and geneticists. It is located in Imperial Centre for Translational and Experimental Medicine, a new research building in Imperial College London’s major biomedical campus. For information on the lab’s interests and publications see:
View the Imperial College London profile of Jorge Ferrer. Including their publications and professional activities.

You will lead a project in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and will focus on computational approaches to understand how specific sequence variants impact genome regulation in pancreatic beta cells and thereby cause diabetes in humans.

Candidates must have a publication record. Diverse educational backgrounds are wellcome, but a computing background is essential. Excellent knowledge in a programming language (e.g Python, C/C++, Perl, R, MatLab) is required. Prior experience with genome-scale data and expertise in statistical analysis is highly advantageous. The ability to work in a team is essential.

Salary Range is £32,750 - £41,540 per annum

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
