  • Research Fellow needed for the Center for Molecular Oncology (CMO)

The Center for Molecular Oncology at MSKCC is searching for an outstanding scientist dedicated to translational cancer genomics. Specifically, we are seeking a candidate to coordinate and drive research activities in computational oncology. The candidate will regularly interact with a broad interdisciplinary group of clinicians and investigators with expertise in cancer biology, computational biology, translational therapeutics, molecular pathology, and bioinformatics. The candidate will work in concert with computational and laboratory-based investigators to identify the mutational programs and pathways implicated in disease and treatment response phenotypes and to identify novel therapeutic targets. The candidate will be central to the development of a state-of-the-art genomics platform to bridge genomics, tumor biology, and clinical application in patients treated at MSKCC. The ideal candidate will possess a nuanced knowledge of cancer biology and have established expertise in bioinformatics, in particular, the bioinformatics of next-generation sequencing, and with high-throughput and integrative genomic analyses. The successful candidate will be an innovative thinker, exceptional communicator, enjoy working with an interdisciplinary team, and bring intellectual and analytical rigor to their work.

MSKCC and the Center for Molecular Oncology provides a vibrant, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment to apply cutting edge high-throughput molecular tools to affect change in the management of cancers and to improve our understanding of the basis of these diseases. The Center is dedicated to translating novel molecular insights into routine clinical practice, thereby catalyzing a modern era of precision oncology.

Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent in genetics, biology, mathematics or other related scientific disciplines. Additionally, a strong quantitative background is required. Some postdoctoral training is preferred. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding academic research record in the biological sciences and have solid programming skills. Must have demonstrated experience designing computational methods and tools, including prior experience with algorithms relevant to computational biology. Thorough understanding and experience in statistics is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in statistical genetics/genomics strongly preferred and a familiarity with next-generation sequence data and analysis tools is a plus. Demonstrated proficiency with several of the following technologies is required: Perl, Python, Java, Matlab, R, C, C++, high performance computing as is a basic understanding of molecular biology and next generation DNA sequencing. Must have an ability to work independently but also collaboratively; making necessary connections with experts in various biological and clinical groups. Self starter that is highly motivated with excellent oral and written English communication skills; experience in delivering oral scientific presentations and writing scientific articles strongly preferred. Ability to solve complex problems individually and as part of a team.

Application: Send a curriculum vitae, bibliography, brief statement of research interests, and the names of at least three references to [email protected]. Please put #CMO-Fellow in the subject line of your reply
