The University of Nebraska Computational Sciences Initiative is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow specializing in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology to join our research team. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will work on a project that studies microbe-microbe interactions and host microbe-interactions to elucidate microbial community structures and how they influence ecosystem function in host environments using the ruminants as a model organism. Responsibilities will include the implementation of bioinformatics software and development of algorithms and statistical tools for analysis and interpretation of –omics datasets. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will apply these methods to rumen microbiome and bacterial and vial genomics data generated from next-generation sequencing platforms. The Post-Doctoral Fellow is expected to bring statistical and computational skills and knowledge in taxonomic and functional analysis of sequence data, biodiversity estimation, sequence assembly and SNP discovery approaches.
The successful candidate will work closely with faculty in Animal Science and the UNL Computational Sciences Initiative (bigdata.unl.edu). Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Ecological or Biological Sciences or other disciplines with training and experience in computational analysis and strong understanding of microbial ecology. Demonstrated statistical and computational programming experience, including knowledge of major programming languages (R, compiled (C/C++ or Java), scripting (Perl or Python) and SQL) is desirable.
