    Campus Description: Stony Brook University, home to many highly ranked graduate research programs, is located 60 miles from New York City on Long Island's scenic North Shore. Our 1,100-acre campus is home to 24,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students and more than 13,500 faculty and staff, including those employed at Stony Brook Medicine, Suffolk County's only academic medical center and tertiary care provider. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and co-manager of nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), a multidisciplinary research laboratory supporting world class scientific programs utilizing state-of-the-art facilities such as the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, the National Synchrotron Light Source, and the Center for Functional Nanomaterials, and the NewYorkBlue IBM BG/L+P supercomputer, owned by Stony Brook and managed by BNL. Stony Brook is a partner in managing the Laboratory for the Department of Energy, and is the largest institutional scientific user of BNL facilities. As such, many opportunities exist for collaborative research, and in some cases, joint appointments can be arranged.

    Brief Description of Duties: The IRACDA NY-CAPS program is a full time - three year postdoctoral fellowship (renewed annually) designed to provide balanced training in research, teaching and professional development for postdoctoral fellows seeking to pursue highly productive academic careers as scholars-teacher-researchers. The Postdoctoral Associates will assist the Principal Investigator and will conduct research and ensure that all experiments and data analysis are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedure of Stony Brook University. Through a blended model of research and teaching, NY-CAPS postdoctoral fellows receive mentored training in research, a diversity of pedagogic training, and practical exposure to a range of academic institutions. NY-CAPS fellows will engage in a rigorous training program that complements traditional research training with several modalities for pedagogic training as well as mentored teaching experience at our partner institutions: The City University of New York Brooklyn College, The State University of New York Old Westbury and Suffolk County Community College.

    Under the direction of Principal Investigators, the incumbent will participate in conducting research in a biological science field. This includes designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data using specialized techniques.

    The Postdoctoral Associates will take part in teaching mentoring at one of the partner institutions (CUNY Brooklyn College, SUNY Old Westbury and or SCCC) and participate in designing a course, co-teach, distance learning, etc to foster and strengthen the overall teach and research opportunities at the partner institutions.

    Special Notes: This is a full time position. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. As per sponsor's grant guidelines, only US Citizens or Permanent Residents may be considered for the position. Travel will be required to annual NIH IRACDA meeting for this position.
