  • statistician/bioinformatician position - NGS data analysis - Strasbourg

    Context
The Institute of Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC) is a research unit composed of 52 research teams (700 persons) and involving INSERM, CNRS and the University of Strasbourg.
The IGBMC Microarray and Deep sequencing platform is dedicated to provide resources and expertise in functional genomics to the national and international research community. The present staff includes 12 persons (7 for the experimental part and 5 for bioinformatics). Current projects concern functional genomics, development, stem cells or human genetics using two main technologies, DNA microarrays and Next Generation Sequencing (ChIPseq, RNAseq and DNAseq). The services provided range from quality check of starting material up to data analysis.

    Activities
The successful candidate will work on bioinformatics and biostatistics analysis of several next generation sequencing projects (Illumina Hiseq2500), for which no standard pipeline is currently available on the platform. To achieve this, the successful candidate will work in collaboration with the research teams leading the projects and the bioinformaticians from the platform. The candidate will conduct a literature review, test and evaluate existing methods. He/she will define appropriate methods to answer to the biological questions asked by the researchers and then set up adapted pipelines.
The successful candidate will first work on the analysis of single-cell RNAseq data. A first dataset obtained on melanoma cells is already available on the platform. He/she will then work on other next generation sequencing projects treated by the platform.

    Required qualification and professional experience
Required qualification: Master in statistics or bioinformatics.
    Required skills:
    - Advanced knowledge of Unix environment and shell programming
    - Advanced knowledge on statistics and data analysis, advanced knowledge and experience in R (knowledge on Bioconductor would be appreciated)
    - Advanced knowledge in programming and knowledge of at least one script language (Perl or Python)
    - Basic knowledge of molecular biology
    - English
    - Previous experience on NGS data analysis would be appreciated

    Contract
18 months fixed-term contract, starting at the beginning of 2015 (negotiable date).
Salary: based on the French public research institution wages and adjusted according to the candidate degree and experience.
Work location: IGBMC, 1 rue Laurent Fries, Illkirch (near Strasbourg), France.

    Submission procedure
Please provide a curriculum vitae, a letter of motivation and name (e-mail, phone number) of two referees to the following e-mail address: [email protected]. The position will remain open until a suitable candidate has been found.
