  • A Computational Biologist/Bioinformaticist job at the University of Nice (France)

    Computational Biologist/Bioinformaticist
Laboratory of Biology and Pathology of Genomes
University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, INSERM U988, CNRS UMR6267
    France

    Description

The Laboratory of Biology and Pathology of Genomes is a new research department at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis dedicated to the study of genome plasticity in cancer and aging. We are recruiting a highly motivated Computational Biologist/Bioinformaticist to analyze high-throughput sequencing data and functional genomics (ChIP-seq, structural variation, resequencing, RNA-seq, genome annotation, gene networks..) for a contract of 2 years starting in July or August 2010. Eventually, the contract could be extended after 2 years.
The work includes both the automation of third-party software, as well as code development to implement dedicated tools and statistical tests. The candidate will generate reports to summarize these results and store them in a database. In addition, he or she will regularly communicate research findings to other scientists.

    Education Requirements

Applicants must have a Master or PhD degree in bioinformatics or computer science. Bachelor degree will also be considered if you have relevant project experience.

    Qualifications and Experience
Demonstrated programming skills in scripting languages (such as Perl) and in relational database management systems (such as PHP-MySQL) are required, as well as a solid understanding of statistical methods. Familiarity with Unix-based environment and with other programming languages is also necessary. The applicant must demonstrate excellent communication skills and resourcefulness in working independently. The ideal applicant has at least 1 or 2 year(s) of research experience with sequence analyses and genomic databases.

    Contact
To apply for this position, please provide a cover letter, a CV (including a description of previous achievements and programs) and the names of 3 references to Eric Gilson.

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
    by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
