Computational Genomic Scientist Department of Pharmacology Weill Cornell Medical Coll

    Computational Genomic Scientist
    Department of Pharmacology
Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University

Our laboratory is interested in the impact of adverse and beneficial environmental conditions, such as stress and exercise, on the epigenome, neuronal network functions, and behavior/fitness in individual and their progeny in animal models. http://vivo.med.cornell.edu/display/cwid-mtoth

As a Computational Genomic Scientist in the Toth lab you will:
    • Be responsible for designing and carrying out bioinformatics and biostatistical analyses of next generation sequencing (NGS) datasets.
    • Encouraged to design, develop and carry out novel projects, preferably in the area of the epigenetic regulation of neuronal networks.
    • Collaborate with other researchers in the lab, advising them on experimental design, data handling and analysis practices for a variety of experimental approaches, including whole genome sequencing, RNA-seq, and RRBS and other epigenomic methods.
    • Have access to some of the best research facilities in the world as well as the opportunity to improve your current skills through educational access to a wide range of workshops, seminars, classes and one-on-one training sessions.

The successful applicant for this position will be expected to produce automated pipelines for large scale data analyses in support of basic science research, with rigorous provenance tracking of all phases of the NGS data lifecycle, from raw data acquisition from instruments, through primary and secondary analyses, and to data visualization, secure data dissemination, and long-term archiving. Additionally, you will be intimately familiar with best practices and the current literature in the field, and fluent with commonly used tools (e.g., the Tuxedo suite, samtools, and especially R) as well as databases. You will be proficient in working in a Linux computing environment, and automating tasks using scripting languages such as bash, perl, python or ruby.

The Toth laboratory explores diverse topics in neuroscience and psychiatry spanning genetics, epigenetics, gene expression, neuronal development, morphology and function and cognitive and emotional behavior. Therefore, the laboratory environment provides an opportunity to work in broad and interdisciplinary areas of research. The laboratory environment is highly collegial and interactive.

Weill Cornell Medical College is located in Manhattan, New York, immediately adjacent to the Sloan Kettering Institute and Rockefeller University. This "tri-institutional campus" includes several hundred principal investigators, and has one of the highest densities of biomedical scientists in the world. This rich scientific environment provides unique and unparalleled research training opportunities, including seminars given by scientific leaders from throughout the world, opportunities for collaborations, exposure to diverse research programs, and highly sophisticated core facilities. Questions and/or applications, comprising a CV, statement of research interests, and the date that you can start, should be e-mailed to Dr. Miklos Toth at [email protected]

Investigating the Gut Microbiome Through Diet and Spatial Biology
    by seqadmin

The human gut contains trillions of microorganisms that impact digestion, immune functions, and overall health1. Despite major breakthroughs, we’re only beginning to understand the full extent of the microbiome’s influence on health and disease. Advances in next-generation sequencing and spatial biology have opened new windows into this complex environment, yet many questions remain. This article highlights two recent studies exploring how diet influences microbial...
