  • Senior Research Associate in Bioinformatics, Norwich Medical School, UEA, UK

    Senior Research Associate in Bioinformatics
    REF: RA1220

    Norwich Medical School
    University of East Anglia

    £31,342 to £37,394 per annum

This is a full time post funded by Hoffman La Roche and is offered on a fixed- term basis initially until 31 August 2017.

We are looking for a creative and motivated Senior Research Associate to join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research team at the University of East Anglia (UEA). The group is led by Professor John Wain and uses the latest nucleic sequencing technologies as part of a translational research programme aimed at improving the diagnosis of infectious disease.

The role holder will be part of a specific project to investigate the biology of biofilm formation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa from clinical infection and is linked to an established post graduate project developing in vitro models for biofilm formation. The goal of this position is to develop analysis techniques for DNA sequence data from biofilm experiments (carried out with saturating transposon libraries in different strains of Ps. aeruginosa) to define the genetic features required for biofilm formation in the clinical setting.

The post holder will also be based at UEA but will be expected to visit the Roche Infectious Disease team in Basel, Switzerland.

Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant biological subject and have an understanding of interrogating bacterial genomes with high density transposon mutagenesis methods. Experience of working with next generation sequence data and/or large datasets would also be advantageous.

Closing date: 12 noon on 11 September 2015

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
    by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
