IMB is in its start-up phase and there are many opportunities for outstanding and ambitious young scientists to join us as group leaders, postdocs or PhD students.

The Institute of Molecular Biology gGmbH (IMB) is a Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and located within the campus of the University of Mainz in Germany. IMB focuses on epigenetics, DNA repair and developmental biology and offers premium scientific core facilities (see www.imb-mainz.de/core-facilities).

The Bioinformatics Core Facility supports the IMB researchers and external collaborators in performing high-throughput data processing, analysis, visualisation and interpretation, as well as by providing IT infrastructure, teaching and consulting services. We are looking for a highly motivated Bioinformatician (m/f) with enthusiasm for academic and translational biomedical research to join our team.

    You will:

    • Support biomedical scientists in the experimental planning, processing and analysis of data from cutting-edge sequencing technologies (RNA-, ChIP-, RIP-, iCLIP-, Bisulfite-seq etc.)
    • Analyse and integrate various “omics” datasets for solving complex scientific questions
    • Assess existing and develop new data analysis methods for high-throughput data
    • Participate in the development of data analysis workflows and pipelines

    Required qualifications:

    • University degree or postgraduate training in computational biology / bioinformatics
    • Extensive experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
    • Solid programming skills in scripting and/or compiled languages
    • Familiarity with Linux / Unix environment and compute clusters
    • Sound knowledge of statistics and R / Bioconductor

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating

New Genomics Technologies Take Aim at Long-Standing Limits
    by SEQadmin2

Researchers using sequencing and genomics tools often have to make trade-offs. They can choose between speed or scale, short reads or long-range information, or targeted panels or a view of the whole transcriptome. New technologies that have been released this year are built to address those tough choices.

We asked six companies the same four questions to learn about their latest products. The new technologies bring a lot to the table, including rethinking sequencing
