  • Postdoctoral Fellowship in Bioinformatics and Cancer Genomics

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available at the Department of Pathology and State Key Laboratory for Liver Research (HKU), to investigate molecular mechanism of liver cancer using next generation sequencing. We seek applications from candidates with expertise in bioinformatics, and computational biology, with strong interests in translational research utilizing next-generation sequencing and single-cell sequencing to study liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, HCC).

Candidates who have strong interest in translational research and appreciate the complexity of biological systems are particularly encouraged to apply. The ability to work independently, to participate in highly collaborative projects, and to contribute intellectually to the development of the research are requisites for the position.

Candidates for the position should have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, genetics, computational biology or other relevant disciplines and in-depth experience with at least one of the following programming languages: R, Python, C/C++, JAVA, etc. Experience in cancer research and/or molecular biology will be an advantage.

Candidates should be highly motivated individuals with the ability to work in a team environment and with good oral and written communication skills in English.

The appointee will work under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Ho (https://hub.hku.hk/cris/rp/rp02285) and Prof. Irene Ng (https://hub.hku.hk/cris/rp/rp00335). A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. Review of applications will continue until the post is filled.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
