Why is one person more likely to develop a disease—like cancer, diabetes or Parkinson’s—than someone else? Why would one person respond differently to treatment than another? Illumina’s technologies are helping researchers around the world to answer these questions and others, on a scale not even possible a few years ago.
Illumina is the only life sciences company developing genome-wide technologies for genotyping, gene expression and sequencing—the three cornerstones of modern genetic analysis. By enabling studies of thousands of patient samples at once, our products set genetic discovery on fast forward. And we’re just getting started.

As a Data Analyst, you will be a member of the Computational Biology Department, focused on developing and improving high performance genomic analysis systems. You will be involved in the development, implementation and testing of new analysis methods and algorithms, for example in the area of image analysis. Together with scientists from other disciplines, you will also participate in the analysis of data for performance improvements or development of new applications for these genomic analysis systems.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Investigate and model overall system performance of genomic analysis instruments systems
• Analyse image data and processed data from instruments and identify avenues for future performance improvements
• Identify potential system improvements in all aspects of technology, for example data analysis, sample preparation, chemistry, fluidics, optics and mechanics
• Provide data analysis support for other R&D groups and interface with scientists from different disciplines across multiple sites
• Develop improved analysis methods and algorithms for high-throughput genomic sequencing
• Implement new analysis methods in C/C++
Education and Experience:
• MSc in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or Natural Sciences; advanced degree is a plus
• Research experience in data analysis and statistical inference
• Scientific software development experience using scripting languages or C/C++
• Familiarity with image analysis techniques or with machine learning approaches is a plus
