  • R&D Scientist, Sequencing and Array Platforms

    Job Description:
    We are seeking a highly motivated platforms Scientist to join Natera’s R&D group. The new team member will lead research and development efforts to evaluate new technology platforms for use with Natera’s products in cancer and prenatal diagnostics. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, enjoy working in a fast-paced multidisciplinary team environment, and have deep knowledge across multiple NGS and microarray technologies.

    Responsibilities:

    •Evaluate new sequencing and microarray platforms for use with Natera’s prenatal and oncology tests
    •Lead projects throughout all stages of planning, feasibility testing, protocol development, verification, validation, and launch
    •Design effective experiments with the statistics and bioinformatics teams; carefully execute lab work
    •Perform data analysis with advanced tools (JMP, Excel, R)
    •Thoroughly document all progress under a Quality Management System
    •Communicate progress directly with colleagues and senior management
    •Support release and transfer of protocols to internal CLIA lab and/or external business partners



    Skills and Qualifications:

    •Deep technical knowledge of Illumina and Ion Torrent NGS systems, and Affymetrix SNP genotyping arrays
    •Track record developing complex quantitative DNA/RNA technology applications across a variety of platforms
    •Proven success in managing collaborative and individual projects, previous experience managing research associates a plus
    •Demonstrated success in applying independent scientific judgment in experimental design and analysis
    •Experience with nucleic acid technology relating to PCR, qPCR, multiplex PCR, and digital PCR
    •Very strong analytical and problem solving skills
    •Adept with Excel, basic statistical analysis, programming (e.g. PERL, python) and databases experience (SQL) are a plus
    •Skills at writing clear plans, reports and SOPs, experience with Design Control a plus
    •Previously functioned as a technical lead in a product development role


    Education Requirements:

    •Degree in molecular biology or closely a related field:
    •Associate Scientist Level- Masters with > 6 years industry experience
    •Scientist Level - Ph.D. with 0-4 years industry experience
    •Senior Scientist Level - Ph.D. with 5-8 years industry experience
