Software Development Engineer in Test
PacBio is developing a unique breed of DNA sequencer already changing how researchers understand biology, from antibiotic resistant bacteria to human cancer genomics. The instrument control software team maintains and develops the robotics, control, and workflow software for the sequencers. We’ve worked to develop a best-in-class code base and process, and you’ll help us make that even better. Using both hardware simulation and on-hardware test automation, we cover a wide range of integration and functional tests. We’re looking for someone to extend that further and support the team with better simulation and automated testing to maintain the team’s excellent velocity and quality.
Responsibilities
• Extend the team’s automation test framework and test coverage by designing and developing hardware simulation in C#, unit tests in C#, and functional and integration tests in Python
• Collaborate with senior engineers through the entire software development lifecycle to solve complex engineering problems in tools and testing, and to increase the team’s velocity
• Automate and extend smoke tests on the DNA sequencers
• Maintain software build and packaging in Gradle/Groovy and installation code in C#
• Triage failures and helping to maintain a stable and functional code base
• Develop internal tools and curate third-party dependencies, such as mono and IronPython
Qualifications
• Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering or other related discipline with 3+ years of work experience
• Proven ability to translate functional requirements and use cases into working test plans and test cases.
• Good coding skills and fluency in managed environments like C#, Java, or Python
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to be able to effectively interface with system verification and deployment teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, a strong team player, able to take initiative, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively as part of a team. Thrives in a fast-paced environment, interacting with engineers and scientists from a variety of disciplines.
• Relevant internship or work experience, including development, DevOps or test automation experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to work across the team and with other teams to design and extend test automation understanding the hardware, firmware, and system integration needs.
• Good understanding of concurrency and debugging races and timing issues
• Experience with the Linux operating system as well as Windows/.Net
• Detail oriented and able to work independently
• Familiar with Agile/Scrum and Kanban processes
• Ability to work with C++ is not required but a plus
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, sex, color, religion, national origin, protected veteran status, or on the basis of disability, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...-

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...-
