  • Memory requirements for Rnnotator

I am considering using Rnnotator as a pre-processor, primarily to cut down on the enormous memory requirements of the Velvet/Oasis assemblers. However, I can find no information about how much memory the Rnnotator pipeline itself requires. Is this a program that can be run on a standard desktop computer (i.e., 4-8 GB RAM), or are more memory intensive computers still required?

I have searched the literature, the forums, and the manual, but have found no answers.

Though I don't have my data yet, I am anticipating ~200-400 million 100 bp paired-end reads.

Does anyone have experience with this software?

    Follow-up

For those that may be interested, I spoke with one of the creators of Rnnotator, and the short answer is that the pre-processing step does require large amounts of memory, depending on what options one selects, and thus is impossible to run on a typical desktop PC. It was suggested to me that a rough estimate of memory requirements is 1.5X the size of the file (I'm assuming he was referring to GBs).
