  • Bowtie installation

    Hi everyone,

I need to install bowtie on my University cluster and I downloaded the linux version of bowtie. (bowtie-0.12.7-linux-x86_64.zip). When I try to copy this to the cluster, I get following command,

bowtie-0.12.7-linux-x86_64.zip: No such file or directory

I also tried just putting bowtie-0.12.7.zip but I got the same error. I am using mac terminal.

    What is happening here?

    Thanks in advance for help!

    Kaustubh.

Perhaps you're in the wrong directory (that is, you're either typing the command in a directory not containing the bowtie .zip file or telling cp to copy the zip file from a place where it doesn't actually exist)? The "No such file or directory" simply means that the cp command can't find what you're telling it to copy.

This is a general enough question that you can also just find someone local familiar with Linux and just show him/her what you're trying to do. The solution should be apparent to someone familiar with using unix/linux/etc.

      Hi kasutubh,

dpryan is right, this just means that the "cp" command can't find the file you are telling it to copy.

The generic form of the "cp" command is:

      Code:
      cp SourceFile TargetDirectory
So, I would say this: "cd" into the directory where you downloaded the file, and do "ls" to see which files are in there. Then, run the command which is failing, and screenshot the terminal window. Post it up here and it should be pretty straightforward to figure out.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
          by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

          Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
          by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
