Does anyone know about some future "close" NGS workshop

    Hello everyone,

As a beginner in the world of NGS, I'm requiring some training on NGS. Therefore, I want to know if anyone knows about some future "close" workshop about NGS data analyses: assembling, annotation, command line "programming", and else?.

    Many thanks,

    Varo

There's one in March at IGS but its in the US. I've been there its all about NGS data analysis http://ae.igs.umaryland.edu/cgi/workshop_info.cgi

The command line stuff you will have to learn yourself, and there are some good resources on the web. Here is a link to an upcoming NGS workshop at EBI: http://www.ebi.ac.uk/training/handso...20305_NGS.html

          Hey,

I don't know if this still meets your idea of "future close", but our institute will give an RNAseq workshop in Düsseldorf, Germany on May 23rd - May 25th 2012.

Please find further information at www.rnaseq.hhu.de. The application deadline for participation is March 31st.

          Best,
          Simon

Nine Things a Sample Prep Scientist Thinks About Before Sequencing
            by SEQadmin2

I’m not a sequencing expert. I’m a purification scientist who uses NGS to evaluate workflows my group develops. With this perspective, we think about the sample first and the NGS workflow second. The sequencer is an exceptionally honest reporter, but it can only report on what you give it, so whether you get clean, interpretable data from an NGS workflow is largely determined before you begin.

Here are nine questions we think about, in roughly the order they matter, before...

From Collection to Sequencing: Why Sample Preparation and Preservation Define Sequencing Data
            by SEQadmin2

Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.

The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.
