    How do you backup?

    Hi All,

Thought it would be interesting to see how everyone here is storing their sequencing data for the long-term.

So what are you using and why?
HDDs, DVDs, BD, tape, online, flash drives(eek!)?

    Thanks!
    Steve

The MiSeq (and HiSeq) Real Time Analysis software is configured to copy data to a network storage location after processing on the instrument. Data (Thumbnails, BCL files, stats, etc.) is copied as soon as RTA has generated them.

Where is this option? Or, are you talking about basespace?

MCS --> Run Options --> Folder Settings Tab --> Output location (if I recollect right, last of the 4 entries). You would put a network drive location there and make sure the drive is mounted on MiSeq.

We have access to the University's "... large, long-term, multi-tiered file caching and storage system utilizing both online disk and robotic tape drives. ..." Up to 10 PB on tape and 200 TB on disk. Not all mine to use, of course.

We have a GoogleDrive, which apparently is UNLIMITED. Guess I'm going to find out exactly what the limit on UNLIMITED is...

Advanced Sequencing Platforms Tackle Neuroscience’s Toughest Genomics Problems
                  by SEQadmin2

Genomics studies in neuroscience face a special challenge due to the brain’s complexity and scarcity of samples. Mapping changes in cell type and state using conventional next-generation sequencing methods remains challenging. Advances in technologies like single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and long-read sequencing have opened the door to deeper studies of the brain and diseases like Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and schizophrenia.

Cancer Drug Resistance: The Lingering Barrier to Rising Survival
                  by SEQadmin2

Cancer survival rates have significantly increased in the last few decades in the United States, reaching a combined 70% 5-year survival rate by 2021. Behind this number, there are years of research to find new therapies, drug targets, and early detection methods. But there is one core challenge that keeps slowing down these advances, and it’s about drug resistance.

There is no single reason why many patients don’t respond to treatment as expected. Cancer is...
