  • gene family and gene copy number

    Hello everyone,
I am puzzled by the defination of gene family and gene with more copies.
Genes with the same sequences but reside in different locations of the chromosome. These genes should be classified as the same gene of different copies or genes of the same family?
what is the measurements for classifying these genes?
By the way, anyone knows a good way to find out the copy number of the same gene in genome?

    Great appreciation in advance.

I am also working on finding the copy number of a gene in a genome... there is a post here that suggests using cufflinks to extract the FPKM scores, and aligning to the ORFs ... did you find a solution to this problem?

        Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
        by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
