  • Bio-Linux 7.0 Released

    Hello,

FYI: Bio-Linux 7.0 is now out. I've upgraded a Bio-Linux 6.0 machine and "converted" a regular Ubuntu 12.04 machine. Both worked well.

And much respect to Tim, Soon, and the rest of the BioLinux team for the massive effort to get this release out!

I have Biolinux 7. I am a beginner for QIIME. I find difficulties tofruther proceed with the location of Greengens and parameter files.

You should try some of the tutorials: http://qiime.org/tutorials/

            Howdy,

Is there any word on the 14.04 release? Because of some hardware/driver issues the Ubuntu Precise based Bio-Linux 7 isn't the best on my rig.

Along those lines, has anyone tried using the Biolinux 7 repositories on a newer Ubuntu/Deb distro? Dont really want to find out first hand how it explodes the OS...

            Thanks

Should set up on 14.04 no problem - did on mine (14.04 install). Instructions here: http://nebc.nerc.ac.uk/tools/bio-lin...age-repository

Cool. I just built this new rig and was missing some of the bioinformatics love from Bio-Linux.

Added repositories and off to the races with Linux Mint 17 Xfce.

                Thanks

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
                  by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

                  Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
                  by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
