    a hardware question

    Hi,
This question doesn't really belong here, but maybe you know the answer: I need to use an external hard disk with linux computer. The problem is that the linux doesn't not recognize the external disc (IOmega). How can I still use the disc with linux?

External USB hard drives should 'just work' with any recent Linux distribution. The problem may be in the filesystem on the disk rather than the disk itself. If your disk is HFS+ formatted (Mac) or NTFS (Windows) then you may have more trouble working with it.

Look at the entries added to /var/log/messages when you attach the disk and you should get an idea of what's going wrong.

As you said - this isn't really the right place for this kind of question and you'd be better off following this up on the forums of whichever linux distribution you're using.
