Hi i am new. I just noticed that some papers define the region within 1 kb to TSS as "near TSS: while the region over 1kb as "far away from TSS". what 's the speciality of the "1kb" ? especially when one protein owns regions "near TSS" and "far awya from TSS" are there any expected difference?

The 1Kb distance is pretty arbitrary, in fact you'll find a range of distances in different papers (I've seen up to 5kb upstream to maybe 2kb downstream). There are typically some proteins that bind closer to the actual TSS than others, but the exact distances used to discriminate between things isn't really set in stone.
