    Running bowtie on Ubuntu

So I installed bowtie on ubuntu. I'm following the "getting started" instructions (http://bowtie-bio.sourceforge.net/tutorial.shtml) from bowtie, so I typed the following into the terminal:

    bowtie e_coli reads/e_coli_1000.fq

Obviously, this didn't work because the path is wrong, but when I get into the correct directory and try to run "e_coli_1000.fq" using the command "./e_coli_1000.fq", it spits out all kinds of syntax errors.

Anyone know what may be the problem?

if you do not put the bowtie binary in your PATH variable you must go to the directory which contains the binary file and use

    ./bowtie path/to/input/file.fq -options

    Also, use bowtie2

I was going to use bowtie2, but it looks like only bowtie has a practice dataset to learn the system

I don't know much about terminal, I'm trying to learn at the moment. So I'm not quite familiar with PATH variables and the sort.

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
          by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating

New Genomics Technologies Take Aim at Long-Standing Limits
          by SEQadmin2

Researchers using sequencing and genomics tools often have to make trade-offs. They can choose between speed or scale, short reads or long-range information, or targeted panels or a view of the whole transcriptome. New technologies that have been released this year are built to address those tough choices.

We asked six companies the same four questions to learn about their latest products. The new technologies bring a lot to the table, including rethinking sequencing
