    Looking for LIMS

Rather than putting the resources into building one, we are seeking to buy or borrow a LIMS. Our facility will be NextGen (2 HiSeqs, 2-3 GAIIx) and currently has a complete (Affy, Agilent, illumina, Nimblegen) microarray core.

    We'd like a Web-based system that:
    > tracks projects
    > tracks samples and sample "offspring" (e.g. cDNA derived from an RNA sample would become a new sample which needs to be tied to the source sample)
    > tracks collaborators creates bills
    > allows collaborators to log in and submit samples and follow their projects
    > tracks reagents, tying them to projects
    > tracks technicians, tying them to projects

Any recommendations would be very appreciated!!

Honestly, all the products I've seen out there are quite expensive, and not enough customization is allowed for our needs (UM Core Facility).

Our core has 3 GAIIx, 1 454, 1 Beadstation, 1 ABI7900HT, 1 Sequenom 3 ABI 3730XL, and a bunch of other small equipment -- I've developed our own home-grown LIMs that has online sample submission & project quote generation, tracks samples & projects across all our platforms, allows clients to monitor the status of their samples online, tracks reagents, automates billing, and has a 'tech tools' area so they can plan & organize their work better.

It's been our best option; every time we get a new instrument or unconventional project I can modify the design to accommodate it. The techs love that they can request a button to do this or a new sorting feature and boom it's there in a day.

The whole thing runs on Sybase & has a perl CGI web front-end, so development tools are free, you just need a server and someone to set it up.

      Looking for LIMS

I think you should inquire about Biotracker LIMS

Recently their LIMS has been selected by The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center of their Research Core Facilities.

Advanced Sequencing Platforms Tackle Neuroscience’s Toughest Genomics Problems
          by SEQadmin2

Genomics studies in neuroscience face a special challenge due to the brain’s complexity and scarcity of samples. Mapping changes in cell type and state using conventional next-generation sequencing methods remains challenging. Advances in technologies like single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and long-read sequencing have opened the door to deeper studies of the brain and diseases like Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and schizophrenia.

Cancer Drug Resistance: The Lingering Barrier to Rising Survival
          by SEQadmin2

Cancer survival rates have significantly increased in the last few decades in the United States, reaching a combined 70% 5-year survival rate by 2021. Behind this number, there are years of research to find new therapies, drug targets, and early detection methods. But there is one core challenge that keeps slowing down these advances, and it’s about drug resistance.

There is no single reason why many patients don’t respond to treatment as expected. Cancer is...
