We're very restricted in what we can run on our servers so some of the less "off-the-shelf" options were out for us so we turned to this software. We were particularly impressed that it would de novo assemble 70,000 454 sequences in about five minutes on my (old and slow) desktop PC.
It's worth getting a trial - the versions seem to update pretty regularly. When we trialled it two months ago it was on 1.something and now it's up to 2.4 I think.
I'm going to stop now as I sound like I'm gushing a bit too much
So far, at least, I'm impressed.

Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.
The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.
