    SOAPdenovo on a unix cluster

I'm new to genomics and trying to assemble a non-model genome- I want to use SOAPdenovo but I can't figure out how to get it running over my hardware options- I have an iMac which has too little RAM, and access to a UNIX cluster with lots of nodes, each with 4G RAM but can you run SOAP over a regular cluster? There doesn't seem to be a UNIX version, just Mac and Linux. Are there commands to tell SOAP the number of processors it is accessing?

From reading this site it seems like people tend to have a dedicated computer with few processors and tons of RAM, but I don't have access to anything like that. Thanks!

Running SOAPdenovo on Amazon EC2 might be one answer to your problem.

Another Seqanswers user is developing a distributed assembler called RAY which might also be helpful, see http://seqanswers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4301

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
        by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
        by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
