abyss-pe on 30G ram crashed

I tried to run abyss-pe for 8Gb short read fasta file
on a machine with 32G of RAM.
And it was not satisfied with memory size.

The target genome size is not so big: about 200Mb.

Any suggestions?
In abyss manual it is written
how to run many copies of abyss with different set
of params on a set of nodes
rather than how to run the abyss on many nodes.
