    2nd Annual NGS Asia Congress, Oct 1st & 2nd 2012, Singapore

The 2nd Annual Next Generation Sequencing Asia Congress is to be held on the 1st and 2nd of October in Singapore. Over the 2 days, the conference will provide an overview of the current options of next-generation sequencing platforms, technologies, applications and the newest computational tools for the analysis of next-generation sequencing data and analytical genomics as well as overcoming data management problems.

The event will attract over 200 senior-level decision makers working in areas such as next generation sequencing, analytical genomics, computational biology, oncology, RNA profiling, molecular genomics, biomarkers, bioinformatics & data management and clinical & diagnostics development from countries such as China, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, S.Korea, Hong Kong & surrounding countries. This prestigious event provides a forum for practitioners and researchers to learn more about key solutions being provided to their industry, analysis of current technologies, network with their peers and address key industry concerns through a series of cutting edge conference presentations in a professional yet relaxed environment.

    This year's speakers include:
Touati Benoukraf - Research Fellow, Cancer Science Institute of Singapore, Centre for Translational Medicine National University of Singapore
Shawn Burgess - Developmental Genomics Section, Genome Technology Branch, National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health
Raffaele Calogero - Professor, Bioinformatics and Genomics Unit, Molecular Biotechnology Center, University of Torino
Ian Campbell - Associate Professor, Head, VBCRC Cancer Genetics Laboratory, Centre for Cancer Genomics and Predictive Medicine, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
Swaine Chen - Senior Research Scientist, Infectious Diseases Group, National University of Singapore and GIS
Jung Kyoon Choi - Professor, Dept. Bio and Brain Engineering, Computational Genomics Laboratory, KAIST, Korea & Principal Investigator, GIS
Edwin Chong-Wing Cheung - Senior Research Scientist, GIS

This is a great opportunity for people in the Asia-Pacific region to get one-stop-shop access to all the major players in hardware, software and applications, and to see and hear about what products are available and in development. There is plenty of time to organise meetings with specific suppliers during the 2 days. And the guest speaker talks give a great opportunity to see what other people are currently doing and also to network and discuss projects and possible collaborations.

The meeting is organised and run extremely well and was good value.
I went last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, and am going again this year.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
      by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
      by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
