  • UK Genome Science Meeting 2013: Sept 2nd - 4th @ Nottingham

Following the success of the last three years' UK Next Gen Sequencing meetings at Nottingham, the newly named UK Genome Science meeting aims to bring together experts from around the world to meet and discuss the current and future state of all aspects and applications of Next Generation Sequencing.

We also aim to ensure that delegates are able to take advantage of friendly and relaxed networking to discuss concerns and difficulties that result from the complex nature of NGS based work. With broad ranging topics we aim to cover the technical challenges faced by those who work to generate and analyse NGS data, and also to share experiences amongst biologists and bioinformaticians who have the unenviable task of unravelling the biological meaning behind these huge datasets.

    Information & Registration:
For frequently updated information and to register for the meeting please visit the DeepSeq events webpage
*UPDATED* Please note that registration now closes on Friday 9th August

    Venue & Date:
The University of Nottingham, Jubilee Campus, September 2nd - 4th.

    Meeting Sessions:
Evolving Technologies, Metagenomics, Clinical and Immunological Applications of NGS, Evolutionary Genomics, Pathogens & Microbes, Agrifoods, Bioinformatics

    Abstracts for Posters & Talks:
We are accepting abstracts from delegates for posters and talks. During the registration process you will be asked if you would like to submit an abstract for a poster or a talk. If you would like to send in an abstract, please tick the relevant box and send the abstract (in *.doc format) to: [email protected]

Closing date for abstract submission: 31st July 2013.
Please also include your status as PhD students whose abstracts are accepted for talks will receive £150 refund on their delegate fee. There will also be prizes (Amazon vouchers) for the best posters.

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
