    Looking for an interested party

    Hello,

I am advising a large university in an oil-rich country that wants to set up a second-generation sequencing centre. There are already established molecular biology labs there, but the sequencing expertise is limited (no really large-scale Sanger sequencing done) although they consider that there are a lot of interesting organisms to be sequenced locally. So they do not plan to set up the centre by themselves, instead they are considering a contract with a reputable, well-established service sequencing firm already using 2nd generation systems. Such a company would set up and man a sequencing centre in their university, while they would essentially provide the capital investment and the customers. Many details need to be worked out, but this is the general scheme. It is important for them that the actual location of the sequencing system (probably a 454 type given that much of the work would be de novo sequencing) be in their country, even if this may not be the most sensible initial option in terms of economics. A European company would probably be preferred, but other origins are possible.

I am planning to contact a number of sequencing companies that I know of, but am also posting this message so that interested parties can contact me. Please note that I am only interested in direct contact with sequencing companies, not in any intermediates! (I am a semi-retired academic with experience in molecular biology, genetics & genomics, and an advisor to several biotech companies).

    Best wishes to all

Beyond CRISPR/Cas9: Understand, Choose, and Use the Right Genome Editing Tool
    by SEQadmin2

CRISPR/Cas9 sparked the gene editing revolution for both research and therapeutics.1 But this system still showed severe issues that limited its applications. The most prominent were the heavy reliance on PAM sequences, delivery limitations, double-stranded breaks that prompt unintended edits and cell death, and editing inefficiency (both in targeting and in knock-in reliability).

Despite this, “CRISPR helped turn genome editing from a specialized technique into

Proteomic Platforms: How to Choose the Right Analytical Strategy to Improve Detection and Clinical Applications
    by SEQadmin2

Proteomics platforms are evolving rapidly, with advances in mass spectrometry and affinity-based approaches expanding what researchers can detect and at what scale. As the field moves toward deeper proteome coverage and clinical applications, scientists face an increasingly complex landscape of tools. This article will explore how researchers are navigating these choices to find the right platform for their work.

The systematic characterization of the human proteome has

Advanced Sequencing Platforms Tackle Neuroscience’s Toughest Genomics Problems
    by SEQadmin2

Genomics studies in neuroscience face a special challenge due to the brain’s complexity and scarcity of samples. Mapping changes in cell type and state using conventional next-generation sequencing methods remains challenging. Advances in technologies like single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and long-read sequencing have opened the door to deeper studies of the brain and diseases like Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and schizophrenia.
